Meet The Sled Dogs

CTW’s Zelda 02.07.2019-10.22.2021

CTW’s Sweet N’ Spicy Papaya “Naya”

DOB: 01/20/2013

Position: Retired

Breed: Purebred Siberian Husky

Naya is one of the original three dogs here at Chasing The Wolves. She was adopted at age 7. She is from the same breeder as Zelda, a family returned her when she was no longer fitting with the family. We were so grateful to add her to the pack, as she brought on calm energy. She quickly became Zelda’s best friend and the start of my little team. She now enjoys free runs and hikes, and will join on the occasional sled run. Naya is definitely the matriarch of the pack and keeps everyone in line. We’d also say that Naya is your ‘stereotypical’ Siberian. Loves to talk, doesn’t love to listen, happy to let anyone into the home and show them where the treats are.

CTW’s Eagle in Disguise “Ezio”

DOB: 04/16/2019ish

Position: Wheel and Team; Working Service Dog

Breed: Purebred Siberian Husky (rescued, Embarked)

Ezio has an interesting origin story. At the time of finding out about him, I was friends with a person who ran a rescue that brought northern breeds over from Qatar (yes, the tiny little country that juts off of Saudi Arabia!). When Ezio came overseas to stay in his foster home, I figured I would give running him and Zelda together a try, since Naya was older and not quite up to speed with Zelda. Sure enough, like the young dogs they both were, we had an absolutely terrible run. They wouldn’t stop playing with each other!! A run that normally took me 30-40 minutes took almost two hours simply because I had to drag those two through the trails. Since then the two of them stepped up and became a great duo to run together. Now that Z is gone, Ezio mostly enjoys running on a section by himself or next to any of my other female dogs. Because he was not a purposefully bred sled dog, we only allow him to join use for under 20 mile runs to prevent injury. Outside of dog sledding, Ezio is a working service dog as well.

CTW’s Curse Never Dying “Durnehviir”

DOB: 05/10/2018

Position: Retired

Breed: Purebred Siberian Husky (rescued, have pedigree)

Durnehviir came into our lives a few months after losing Zelda. A good friend of mine who was fostering him through a local rescue reached out to me, jokingly saying I needed to meet him. I had been on a wait list for a litter of puppies, so I wasn’t even considering an adult dog, especially a male. But just for fun, I met him. The whole drive home I convinced myself that this dog wasn’t the right one and that I just needed to wait for those puppies. But a few days went by, and I couldn’t let go of the feeling that he was right for us. I talked it through with close friends and family, and here we are, stuck with the goofy boy. When I adopted him, I actually found out that he is the litter mate of a friend’s dog! So we know where he came from and a little bit about his pedigree (he was back yard bred for his color... go figure). Due to poor confirmation Durnehviir has been retired and joins us for fun runs, hikes, camping, and all our other adventures!

Points Unknown’s Connor “Revali”

DOB: 07/21/2018

Position: Wheel and Team

Breed: Hedlund line Alaskan Husky

Revali is a Hedlund line Alaskan Husky who joined our pack at age 4. At the time we were not looking at adding another adult dog, but the timing ended up working perfectly, and he has been such a great addition. He is our first purpose bred sled dog, and we’ve since learned that this makes a HUGE difference! His drive to work is outstanding, and his structure can hold up to much longer mileage, unlike the rescue dogs we have. Revali currently does best in wheel, where he can use his power to drive the team forward.

Points Unknown’s Wiigwass/Birch “Dovahkiin”

DOB: 07/30/2022

Position: Wheel and Team

Breed: Hedlund line Alaskan Husky Mix

Dovahkiin is a spicy little Hedlund who is a strong willed dog. She LIVES to work, and puts her heart and sole into what she does. She is a smart, easy to train girl who enjoys learning tricks outside of being a sled dog. While she is not a lead dog, she certainly is a ‘leader’ in the pack, who instigates chase and play games, is the first to alert to intruders, and has a close relationship with many of the dogs we have at the kennel.

Points Unknown’s Tikan

DOB: 10/27/2014

Position: Lead and Team

Breed: Hedlund line Alaskan Husky

Tikan joined our kennel in 2023 to help train in our younger pups to lead, and semi retire from a larger kennel. She has been a stellar addition and has helped train in multiple dogs. Her best friend is Revali, and they enjoy chasing each other around in the big dog yard. She also spends her summers foraging for dandelion roots and carrots. She is a very sweet girl.

Mackey/Rhode’s Bette “Marceline”

DOB: 03/30/2022

Position: Lead

Breed: Alaskan Husky

Marceline is our star lead dog, since she has joined our kennel she has led almost every single run. If not in lead, this girl will bark until she is placed back in ‘her spot’. In harness she has tons of confidence and likes to bark at bystanders to let them know that they are in her way. She is a powerhouse and a speed demon. In the dog yard, she enjoys teaming up with the girls and chasing down Ezio. She is very sweet and gentle with guests and will give hugs out to those close to her. She also knows how to pants you- you’ve been warned!

Fun on the Run’s Love Symbol “Beedle”

DOB: 04/26/2019

Position: Team and Lead

Breed: Alaskan Husky

Beedle is our up and coming lead dog in training! She is a very loving and sweet dog, and often spends time in the house with her humans. Beedle has the biggest personality, and knows it! Despite being the smallest dog at our kennel, she is a power house. We call her our ‘team cheerleader’ as she will bark the second we stop running. If you love Beedle, you can follow her here!
